i'm a son of oakland i grew up in oakland. this is not the oakland that i grew up in. i'm calling on community leaders. and i'm prepared to lean in myself. we've got to do differently we've got to do something better. this has obviously been an afternoon full of very high emotions for the city of oakland yet again another episode of ongoing violence gun violence in the city of oakland, and this is a level one trauma center. they say they treat so many instances of gun violence in and around oakland and the whole east bay community and with this one being right near a school. they say this one felt even more intense in the sense because there were children nearby and there were instances where others could have been hurt and that's what they did hint at. this press conference the important news though coming from it is that there is an improvement and one of the people who would be treated here they're in stable condition to however do remain with life threatening injuries and are in critical condition, but they are in stable. they said they're going to be providing us

oakland police want to see it. they probably want to see the people who may have been walking around the area may be canvassing the area may be driving in and out that, you know, that's all part of oakland's investigation. so if if you are in that area, fontaine, if you're near the bay area, tech campus, oakland police are looking for according to council member read, they are looking for any of the footage from the area of fun team. they want to see that surveillance video so they can try to piece together the investigation. but again, as soon as oakland police start to give any type of update here, we will pass that along to you. we hope that the oakland unified school district also at some point comes out and from the cameras and can address some of the questions that we're having as far as exactly where on the campus of sojourner truth. this shooting took place. where exactly the shooting took place. that's what we want to figure out. we also are expecting to hear some information in the next hour here highland

time is 50 to oakland.e investigators believe arson is the cause of three small fires that broke out last night along interstate 5 80. it happened around six pm between 35th and coolly. jabiluka video from twitter shows the flames near approved bail avenue just outside of the guard. rail fires were quickly put out. they did not spread to nearby homes and road flares were found there at the scene. last week, five homes were damaged in a much bigger fire in that very same area. the fires may not be related. so this incident we were able to deem that this one was arson. based upon the stuff that was found at the scene here tonight in the fire we had last week or on friday was that one is still under investigation as well. we've got multiple investigators working on that one. and that one still is under investigation. so they are two separate incidents. they just happen to be in close proximity to each other. at this point, there's no word that there are any suspects in last night's fires. there has been anothe

i live here in oakland. i'm raising my kids here in oakland. um i would like to have that number of police officers to make sure my neighbors my family and friends are all safe, says 911. calls are triaged. violent crimes are prioritized, but property crimes burglaries and other reports to police are low on the list. enforcement experts say. that's not unique to oakland, a result of reduced officer retention rates attributed to low pay increased scrutiny and more work . your job is understaffed, but yet services still have to be provided. so most of the rank and file are probably working anywhere from 60 to 80 hours. oakland has stepped up training with a group of cadets sent to graduate in october for more academies are being planned for this fiscal gear. but oakland city council president says the burden of emergency calls can't fall solely on officers. we have to do better. we have to focus our police resources on those violent crimes. and find alternatives to deal with the other volume of 911 calls that we have strides are being made to sep
